David Villa: Cesc Fabregas should focus on doing well with Arsenal

New Barcelona striker David Villa believes Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas should focus on doing well with the Gunners, before joining Barcelona.

Speaking to Spanish daily Sport, “El Guaje” believes the midfielder should not be upset for not moving back to Spain as he will have another opportunity to seal a move to Barcelona next summer. According to the striker, the Arsenal captain should give everything for his team and play as good as he can.

Fabregas started for Spain in their 1-1 draw away against Mexico in yesterday’s friendly match with Villa believing it would have been nice to see him return home with the rest of the Barcelona players.

Just like other Barcelona players, Villa concluded by saying how much Fabregas deserves to play for the “Blaugrana”, adding how sooner or later, his dream to join the Spanish giants will be fulfilled.

He said:

What I’d say to him is to do what I did: concentrate on your club and give everything for your team.

Football does not stop here and, after all, sooner or later he’ll end up playing for Barça.

What he should do is keep showing the great form he has been doing for the next season. He will have this opportunity again next year.

But while he is with Arsenal, just play as well as he can.

It is annoying because we wanted to have him here because he is a friend and a great player. But mostly it’s annoying because he’s a great kid.

I’m sure he’ll have another chance and end up wearing the Barça shirt.

David Villa Sets Sights On Pichichi Crown In La Liga

Barcelona attacker David Villa has admitted one of his personal targets upon his arrival at the Camp Nou is to clinch the Pichichi, the award for top goalscorer in the Spanish Primera Division.

Despite being a regular scorer in La Liga over the past five seasons with Valencia, Villa has never finished as the league’s best, twice being beaten into second place.

El Guaje hopes that this is the season he can finally achieve his target, but was quick to add that the interests of the team in general supersede personal accolades.

Speaking to Canal +, he remarked: “Clearly, all is going well for me here in the beginning. We must continue working to keep things this way.

“Without obsessing, I wish I could be top scorer, but I make sure that I prioritise the collective as opposed to my individual success.”

The 28-year-old also briefly commented on his performance in the 3-0 defeat of Racing Santander on Sunday evening, a game which handed Villa his first competitive goal for the Blaugrana.

He said: “I do not need the personal praise, but the team played brilliantly, and it has been easy to adapt to the team.”

David Villa scored to make it 2-nil against Lichtenstein with a laser from 25-yards out. But more importantly, this goal was Villa’s 43rd for Spain, which equals Raúl’s tally and makes both generations of #7s joint leading scorers for España.
